6 Things Thursday 💌
Heya,
Here's another microdose of things I enjoyed this week--written by me, Raad—CEO of LawTrades.
1/ A post I read 🇨🇳
https://danwang.co/2019-letter/
@danwwang argues that “our technological civilization ought to be found in scientific and industrial achievements, not the creation of consumer internet companies. It’s not obvious to me that apps like WeChat, Facebook, or Snap are doing the most important work pushing forward our technologically-accelerating civilization. To me, it’s entirely plausible that Facebook and Tencent might be net-negative for technological developments. The apps they develop offer fun, productivity-dragging distractions; and the companies pull smart kids from R&D-intensive fields like materials science or semiconductor manufacturing, into ad optimization and game development.”
2/ An interview I watched 🦉
Rap Radar: Drake (YouTube)
They scream your failures and whisper your accomplishments. This lengthy interview is like a Netflix series, so here’s a breakdown so you can skip around:
36:00 Gods Plan (Biggest hit of career)
38:43 Social Media
55:19 Ghost Writing
59:06 Meek Mill
1:04:59 Beef
1:06:43 Pusha T
1:10:09 Adonis (his son)
1:14:32 Kanye
1:19:40 Jay Z
1:25:19 Rick Ross
1:26:21 Chris Brown
1:42:42 The Weeknd
1:48:10 Camp flog gnaw
2:01:01 Kendrick Lamar & J Cole
2:03:45 Difference between (Kendrick/ J Cole/ Drake
3/ A book I took notes on ✍🏽
My favorite highlights: A nice definition of an awakened person is a person who no longer marches to the drums of society. It’s a person who dances to the tune of the music that springs up from within.
You’re free; you don’t care anymore about being accepted or rejected, that makes no difference.
There’s only one reason why you’re not experiencing bliss at this present moment, and it’s because you’re thinking or focusing on what you don’t have. Otherwise you would be experiencing bliss.

4/ An internal company dashboard I viewed 📊
https://share.geckoboard.com/dashboards/6BEB633F5EF55B35
See how much GMV and revenue Gumroad is making this month.
5/ An album I’m re-listening to 🐰
Enema of the State by Blink 182
Spotify / Apple Music / Google Play
This was the first CD in I purchased in 1999 and every few years I play it back to remember where I came from.
6/ A graph I enjoyed 👼🏼
This shows a reconciliation of apparent opposites represented by the axes innocence and power, while the X axis is both power and time. The idea is most adults fail to reclaim innocence, so end up in Southeast quadrant with only power.
Have a great week!
