π 6 Things Thursday #55
Hi friends,
Welcome to another edition of 6 Things Thursday where I give you a free microdose of interesting things Iβve experienced.
Itβs been almost 2 months since I last published and thatβs because I began fundraising for my startup again, which is finally winding down. I did it differently this time with a new fintech tool called RUV that allowed me to raise directly from a bunch of customers, founder friends, and small strategic funds like this one, instead of VCβs. To my surprise, there was 3x more demand than anticipated and I got to meet some super interesting people in the process. Might write more about it if it could be helpful to some people here.
Anyways, back to our regularly scheduled programming!
1/ An article I reread
How to Increase Your Luck Surface Area
The argument here is that serendipity in your life can be formalized into the equation L = D*T, where L is luck, D is doing and T is telling. It demonstrates that the more you do and the more people you tell about it, the larger your Luck Surface Area will become, thus making your own luck. Drawing from this concept and relating it back to our recent raise, maximizing the number of investors is one of the easiest ways to maximize your startups luck surface area.
2/ A song I recorded
I made this alt pop punk version of LβAmour Toujours for my wife on our 1 year wedding anniversary in Greece. Why this song? She was a french major in college and I thought the original melody would sound way better with guitar and drums.
3/ A memo I saved
4/ An interview I gave
I talk about growing up in a conservative Bangladeshi-American household and the resistance I faced trying to launch an internet company after I promised my parents Iβd be a lawyer. Spoiler: it turned out OK.
5/ A book Iβm reading
There are very few books out there that come around and pop your epiphany cherry. Like you just had the rug pulled from underneath you and everything you though you knew, was completely wrong. This is that kind.
6/ A quote Iβm pondering
The great majority of us are required to live a life of constant duplicity. Your health is bound to be affected if, day after day, you say the opposite of what you feel, if you grovel before what you dislike, and rejoice at what brings you nothing but misfortune.
Until next time.
