💌 6 Things Thursday #51
Aloha,
Here’s another microdose of thoughts--made by me, Raad—founder of Lawtrades and writer at Spacecult.
If you enjoy what I write, hit that heart icon or forward this to a friend.
1/ An idea I learned
Mimetic Theory of Desire
Humans are sheep. We don’t know what we actually want, so we imitate others to help us understand who and what to desire. If people imitate each other’s desires, they may wind up desiring the very same things; and if they desire the same things, they easily become rivals, as they reach for the same objects (such as a job, first place prize, or a lover).
2/ A post I highlighted
3/ A book I saw
Around Facebook’s IPO, employees received a little red book that nicely encapsulated Clayton Christensen’s theory of disruption change the theory.
It’s the process by which a product takes root initially in simple applications at the bottom of a market and then relentlessly moves up market, eventually displacing established competitors.
4/ An album I’m working to
I’m playing early recordings of the legendary Quincy Jones, an American bandleader, multi-instrumentalist, and producer from Chicago. In the '60s, the Oscar winning composer brought bold, brassy arrangements that exuded an uncanny mix of cocktail-clinking sophistication and in-your-face swagger.

5/ A post I wrote
Life is about early detection of the reversal point beyond which your own belongings (say, a house, country house, car, or business) start owning you.
6/ A quote I’m pondering
“The place in which I’ll fit will not exist until I make it.” — James Baldwin
